The Szabó Dániel Quintet is a true "middle generation" supergroup, its members are musicians who are renowned both in Hungary and abroad. The quintet mostly performs the bandleader's own compositions: progressive, but also accessible and stimulating music. The intense and joyful interaction between the members, complex rhythmic world, exuberant melodies and modern harmonies characterize the band and the repertoire. Some of the music was developed in Los Angeles, where bandleader Dániel Szabó has lived and worked for the past 8 years. The performance in his home country is made particularly exciting by the participation of Hungarian colleagues, who contribute new colours to the music, drawing on their own cultural backgrounds and strong personalities.

Dániel Szabó is active both in Hungary and in the United States, and regularly works with artists such as Peter Erskine, Chris Potter and Joe LaBarbera, but he also plays with the leading musicians of the younger generation in the US. His most recent album Visionary was a chart-topper in the prestigious American magazine JAZZIZ, alongside Brad Mehldau and Esperanza Spaulding. Chick Corea's management has asked Szabó to perform the final movement of Corea's Bartók-inspired Jazz Piano Concerto, dedicated to MÜPA, with John Patitucci and Dave Weckl, in the spring of 2022.
