Pianist Károly Gáspár is one of the leading figures of the Hungarian jazz scene. After his three trio albums – The Outsider (2017), Salvation (2019) and Philosophy (2021) –, and his solo piano album Centuries Suite, he released a trio album entitled Tribute to Giants in September 2023, joined by bassist Géza Jónás and drummer Balázs Bágyi.
The new album features seven compositions by Károly Gáspár, all of which pay tribute to iconic American jazz artists. The pieces follow the compositional style of the jazz giants referred to in their titles, and the improvisations also show their characteristic stylistic traits, but Gáspár's themes and improvisations, as well as the playing of his two partners, also show their own personality and musical approach.
