The Hungarian wind instrumentalist, Mihály Borbély, who is at home both in the jazz and the contemporary music, and extremely popular at home and abroad, is one of the defining figures of Hungarian jazz. In his pieces, the marked presence of the folk music heritage of the Carpathian Basin and the Balkans is organically combined with elements that based on the various trends of jazz, or the music of twentieth-century classics. Exciting melodic turns, sometimes subtly translucent, other times strong rhythms, lyricism and energy, always interwoven with the freshness and spontaneity of improvisations.

The Mihály Borbély Quartet has so far released five records under the auspices of BMC, most recently Grenadilla in 2019, in which traditional woodwind instruments – the clarinet, clarinet, bass clarinet and flutes – played a stronger role than usual. This time, the Mihály Borbély Quartet will be arriving at the Opus Jazz Club with the compositions of its new album, wich will contain more melancholic tunes. Mihály Borbély called his latest program "night music", the listening of which requires inner calm and focused attention, as well as the famous ballad albums or Miles Davis' iconic album Kind of Blue. During the composition process, in addition to the great jazz-pioneers, the literature also influenced Borbély, but these inspirations never appear directly in the final compositions. The formation will go into the studio before the concert, so this record is scheduled to be released by BMC Records later this year.
