Vive le Jazz | Laura Perrudin | Csaba Palotaï (FR/HU)
- Laura Perrudin - harp, voice
- Csaba Palotaï - guitar
The first half of this double bill concert features Laura Perrudin, who began exploring all kinds of music and just about anything that makes noise at an early age. Luthier Philippe Volant built her a chromatic pedal-less harp in 2008, enabling her to bring the sinuous harmonies of her compositions to life. She continued on her adventurous musical path with the electric chromatic harp, an instrument that was tailor-made for her. With it, she ventures into sound worlds evoking Amon Tobin, Björk, Portishead, Mica Levi and Flying Lotus, as well as the winding, impressionistic harmonies of Debussy, Ravel or Wayne Shorter. Lending her distinctive voice to the electronic experiments, she crafts intense, virtuosic live-looping performances.
In the second half of the concert, we welcome Csaba Palotaï, resident artist of this year's Vive le Jazz festival. The guitarist's new program, Soulbread, is a response to his solo album The Deserter, released ten years ago, which is not only one of the brightest gems in the BMC Records catalog, but also received great international acclaim. This repertoire returns to the leaping finger-picking motifs, with a little electronic deep dive, proto-jazz and some heart-wrenching urban romance. In Csaba Palotaï's hands, the electric guitar becomes the perfect tool for exploring loneliness – another homage to stray souls and fallen heroes. The material will be released in the near future on BMC Records.
