j(A)zz! | Pongracz – Moriel – Kranabetter – Popp: Nothing Causes Anything (AT)
- Alex Kranabetter – trumpet and electronics
- Yvonne Moriel – saxophone
- Vincent Pongrácz – bass clarinet and FX
- Simon Popp – drums
Metaphysics or an anti-calendar saying? Nothing Causes Anything is an updated version of this quartet featuring two Austrian Jazz Prize winners, Yvonne Moriel on saxophone and Vincent Pongrácz on bass clarinet and electronics. Together with sound architect Alex Kranabetter on noise-electronically processed trumpet, they first came together in 2024 for a compositionally improvised set as part of their concert series “Synesthetic Wednesday” in Vienna. The result was described at the time as experimental noise jazz. Their sound is driven by free improvisation, full of twists, collisions, and unexpected harmony. Despite their different musical roots, they share attentiveness, improvisational sensitivity, and the courage to embrace chaos – and to repeatedly transform it into something new.
