The backbone of the program by Kálmán Oláh Jr. and his quintet is the album King’s Gambit, a remarkable work of contemporary Hungarian jazz that features the bandleader-saxophonist’s own compositions and unique arrangements. The pieces blend the energetic drive of modern jazz with a deep musical thinking interwoven with classical musical elements into a harmonious fusion that Kálmán Oláh Jr. conceived specifically for this band. The aim of their performances is to showcase the band’s artistic and compositional work in prestigious venues both in Hungary and abroad, thereby positioning the new generation of Hungarian jazz on the international music scene. Kálmán Oláh Jr.’s playing reflects both his keen interest in classical and jazz music and his exceptional dedication, which has earned him multiple awards in Hungary.
