This album is a milestone in jazz history and in the life of Blue Note Records. Between 1947 and 1952, Thelonious Monk made studio recordings with various lineups, leading his own band. First, two smaller black vinyl records were released, followed by a compilation album in 1956. Monk is truly an epoch-making genius, his music is sometimes ironic, sometimes lyrical, but always surprising. His melodies are unpredictable, his rhythms unusual, his harmonies groundbreaking – pointing the way forward for modern jazz. The concert will feature a selection of quintet and sextet compositions from the albums.
