Based in Venice and London, Minimal Klezmer Trio was founded in 2011 in the streets of the capital of England by a group of three musicians united by a background in classical music, an inclination towards improvisation, and a fatal passion for klezmer. Given the chamber music and sometimes cabaret-like characteristics of the group, the show is brought out particularly in gatherings with good contact with the public.
Without forgetting the intrinsic link between klezmer and dancing, celebrating, Minimal Klezmer's show values two components: the more sacred and meditative, which opposes and almost complements the ironic, and sometimes improvisational cabaretistic side.
The minimal line-up of the trio, consisting of tools for more “portable” and acoustic instruments, is directly inspired by small klezmer formations, thanks to the old recordings of Jacob Gegna, Josef Solinski, Mihal Viteazul we have evidence of, dating from as far back as the early twentieth century.
The repertoire consists strictly of pieces of Eastern European origin, with original arrangements that, in contrast with to the more sacred and meditative aspect, bring out an ironic, improvisational, cabaretistic and danceable side.
Minimal Klezmer have held numerous concerts, reviews and Radio appearances in Italy, the UK, Germany and Hungary. Among the most significant performances were the opening of the Festival of Carnevalanga for the Carnival of Venice, Ronnie Scott’s in London, the Patyolat Theater and the Frankel Leo Street Synagogue in Budapest, KulturForum in Kiel and the Eden Theater in Treviso.
