Viktor Tóth is one of the most versatile figures of Hungarian jazz. He can reveal his strong musical personality with the same effect as a virtuoso postbop musician and as a special interpreter of spiritual music. His playing is truly dynamic, yet with a sensitive expressiveness, while in his musical manifestations he seeks to capture the energies of the moment. That is why he regards his co-operations with some of jazz’ prominent figures – Hamid Drake, Bart Maris, Henry Franklin, William Parker, Piotr Wojtasik, or John Betsch – always as exceptional opportunities for learning and self-development. He has played at many jazz festivals in Europe and the United States, and of course he is a regular performer at the Opus as well. With his two trios, the Viktor Tóth Tercett and the Arura Trio, he has performed already at the club this year, but with Bird Food Market, his formation established in 2012, he has been on its stage more than two years ago. The quartet’s music is a marriage of modern jazz and hip-hop, a re-interpretation of Charlie Parker's bebop legacy, a shining journey to never-seen worlds. Their concerts are characterized by the instantaneous re-birth of music, an avant-garde spirit, the sweeping pulsation of broken rhythms and a constantly high level of improvisation.
